  • 2009 September Boat Show

With some newly appointed team members here at Selene Seattle, we went into the September boat show with much eagerness and enthusiasm!  We were proud to display two brand new Selenes at the show.  We had a new 2009, 55’ and a new deep hull design 48’ to show.  Both of these boats were highly popular throughout the show.

In addition, we had three brokerage boats.  One pristine 58’ Westbay Sonship, a 36’ Selene and a 53’ Selene.  This year, the boat show culminated with our traditional dock party to bring Selene owners and enthusiasts together.  We also bid farewell to Brian Calvert as he made a dramatic departure from the dock to head South to San Diego.

  • 2009 Rendezvous

Three days of sun and fun made the Eighth Annual Selene Rendezvous a great success. Nearly 40 Selenes ranging from the 36' to the new 66' arrived at historic Roche Harbor for three days of fun, education and camaraderie.

The event started with a hands on woman's only boating class aboard Duesie and Furthur. Captains Patti and Carol gace an all day course on boat handling, systems and electronics introduction. As always the attendees were thrilled with the prospect of having women teach women.

Cummins Northwest gave a diesel engine class that was well attended also on Thursday. This provided an opportunity to get a much more in-depth look at the modern diesel engine and to educate the owners on maintenance and repairs.

Thursday night the owners and guests took advantage of the time to reunite and enjoy on board dining or visit the exquisite Roche Harbor Restaurant.

Friday started early with classes. This year the theme centered around historic and modern Northwest cruising. We had two local authors speak giving two very different perspectives. We also got to hear about the new features of the owner's site, an update on FUBAR and a great talk on whale watching.

Fridaynight brought us all to the party barge for the annual Docktail Party and Auction. A balmy early summer evening found everyone enjoying the festivities. The auction was great fun and raised a handsome sum for Sound Watch.

Saturday started not quite so early with classes and visits to the sponsor tents. W had a wide selection of vendor displays providing the guests ample opportunity to quality time with the experts. Saturday night started with an outdoor cocktail party straight to the awards dinner. Awards ranging from the serious to the fun were given. As is tradition, Howard Chen gave a highly regarded speech giving thanks to all the owners for their support.

Sunday morning started with the Blessing of the Fleet, then tothe annual 5k run. We all bid farewell as the Selene fleet departed for all points of the compass.

  • 2009 Trawler Fest

Again Selene had a dominant presence at the Anacortes Trawler Fest, May 7-9, 2009. Preceding the actual event were the Passage Maker University classes. The Woman's Only Boat Handling course was again taught on Furthur, a Selene 48.' The boat drew great praise from the students, some were future Selene owners.

The rain and wind of the first few days gave way to sun and warmth for the balance of the event. Attendance record were broken. Selene Seattle had five new and brokerage Selenes on display from 36 to 53 feet.

As always Trawler Fest and the PMM crew threw a great event with expansive educational opportunities and festive paries. The highlight of the festivities was the annual fund raiser auction. This year Brian Calvert was the auctioneer.

Trawler Fest continues to be THE place for trawler enthusiasts to gain knowledge, make new friends and see a large display of boats for sale that appeal to true cruisers.

  • 2009 Boats Afloat Show January 23rd - February 1st

With uncertainty in the air we went to the Seattle Boat Show with a full commitment to again present the largest display of Selenes in the USA .

Five of the eight boats we featured this year were Selenes. We unveiled the new Selene 66, the first one delivered to the USA, a widebody 59, two 43s showing the two different layouts, and a great value brokerage 53. We also had three fine brokerage boats.

The show started with sunny days which turned to snow and wind on the first Sunday. Not to be discouraged, we had snow covered folks standing in line to board the Selenes. The rest of the show had good weather for Seattle in the winter, even some sun.

Attendance was down 13% but the enthusiasm was up. There was a renewed sense of commitment to cruising in many of the people we have talked to over the years. As we have come to expect, the Selenes were full when most of the other boats in the show were empty. Selene has certainly become one of the major attractions for our boat shows.

Following tradition, we celebrated at the Selene Seattle Boat Show Dock Party. Over sixty Selene owners, past present and future braved the cold crisp Saturday night to join us for wine, great food and that wonderful camaraderie the Selene owners are famous for. We had a special guest this year, Passagemaker Magazine's Editor in Chief John Wooldridge. John has joined us on two Selene Rallies and is a great supporter.

The renewed enthusiasm and strong interest left us all excited about 2009. As one person put it "The sky is not falling and if it is, where better to be than at sea in my Selene."

Selene Fleet in Fubar Odyssey:

Selene was well represented by seven boats in the FUBAR ODYSSEY cruise to Mexico. The boats were:

Mystic Moon – John & Kathy Youngblood’s Selene 53
Kasekuchen – Bob & Cheryl Klein’s Selene 53
Voyager – Les & Rosemary Dobbe’s Selene 53
Rediscovery II – Richard & Jane Wenstom Selene 53
Annaruth – Jake & Suzanna Maisel’s (and JP the golden retriever) Selene 53
Oriana – Frank & Marilyn Lomas’s Selene 53
Wandering Star – Ade & Jo’s Selene 48

Sasha and Brian Calvert of Selene Seattle provided a Champaign Toast for the Seleners to say Bon Voyage at a “pre-party”. The next day we attended the official send off party with crews from 52 attending yachts.
Our first report just came and once again Mystic Moon is treated to a rare whale sighting as two Blue Whales crossed their path. Then next leg is the first of several over nighters to Turtle Bay. We will keep you posted as the fleet moves south.

The Del Rey Yacht Club proudly presented FUBAR ODYSSEY '07 with the partnership and support of Mexico's Tourism Board. This first ever rally takes the fleet of powerboats from San Diego to La Paz, escorted by vessels manned by experienced skippers and with the key support people aboard such as mechanics, doctors, paramedics and boat manufacturers and by the makers of major marine engines, electronics and equipment, etc.
